How to prep your home for air conditioning installation

So you’ve realized it’s time to upgrade your existing air conditioning system to a more energy efficient system. Great choice! You’re making a long-term investment in your family’s comfort as well as the decreasing of your energy costs and responsible consumption of energy. While those are all great things there are still a couple other things you can do to prepare your Haltom City home before you begin the air conditioning installation process.

1. Review the Manual J Heating and Cooling Load

First of all, the AC contractor should have completed what’s called a heating and cooling load calculation. This intricate calculation takes into account the home’s structure, roof, windows, direction and location to determine the size and type of equipment needed. Ask to see the load calculation and have it broken down for you. If the contractor did what’s commonly referenced as a Block Assessment, or did not do a load calculation at all, we would strongly recommend selecting another contractor or calling Stark Services at 817-668-6689. Your Haltom City HVAC specialist will be able to provide you a full assessment.

2. Clean and Seal Ducts.

Next, have the company clean your ductwork. It’s not a good idea to introduce caked on dirt and dust from a very old duct system to your brand new air conditioning system. The health of your entire system and the quality of the air you breathe starts with your ducts delivering clean air, so make sure that they are cleaned and correctly sealed by the HVAC contractor. If you can’t remember the last time you had your ducts cleaned or have never had them cleaned, have the contractor perform a duct cleaning prior to your new AC installation.

3. Clear a Path.

Prior to the air conditioner installation you will also want to clear the area where equipment will be installed, and make sure it is easy to access. There are stairs, landscaping porches, decks or other things surrounding the AC, clear the area as best as you can. Ensure the area is clear of yard waste like big sticks and leaf piles so installation is even simpler. Also make sure to clear away any other objects that could get in your installation professional’s way such as garden hoses, rakes, or children’s toys. Make sure pets are confined so they do not get in the way of the installation crew.

Think you’re ready to move forward with the air conditioning installation process? Call the pros at Stark Services in Haltom City at 817-668-6689 or schedule an appointment online for a free home comfort analysis and system upgrade estimate.
