Common Haltom City AC Problems and Solutions

June 13, 2016

We’ve discussed a few of the most common air conditioning problems Haltom City faces, but today we are here to tell you about some typical air conditioner troubles that you can help troubleshoot.

The A/C is on but not blowing cool air.

If your AC is running but not really cooling, you may need to have your refrigerant levels inspected. Refrigerant is required to make sure the air being released from the system is truly cool and keeps your home comfortable. Low refrigerant is often an indicator of a leak or that the system wasn’t charged correctly.

An easy way to confirm if you are low on refrigerant is to find the two copper pipes on your AC system. If the bigger pipe is “sweating” or giving off condensation, touch the pipe to feel if it’s cold. If it’s cold to the touch, you are likely good to go and do not need extra refrigerant.

If you’re not certain or the pipe is not producing condensation and is not cold when you feel it, call Stark Services and we’ll pay you a visit and confirm your refrigerant levels and discover why your A/C system is not blowing cool air. Note: only an EPA Certified technician should work on refrigerant for central A/C systems, due to the dangers of handling this potentially dangerous chemical.

You air condenser fan isn’t circulating.

There are multiple reasons your condenser fan might not be turning. One might be that it merely burned out and you have to get a replacement. Humidity generally causes more condensation so another problem to look out for is that the water is not draining properly or that the drain is obstructed. If you can confirm these things, you may be able to locate the issue; but, if not, give Stark Services a call and we can determine what is preventing your condenser fan from turning and go over your options to get your A/C system problem resolved.

Your air conditioner is not providing ample air cooling.

First thing’s first: try lowering your thermostat. It seems ridiculous but sometimes we tend to overlook the obvious. If lowering the thermostat doesn’t get your system working right, check and swap out the air filter. If the air filter is clogged, it could cause significant cooling troubles. Another issue that could result in your lack of cooling is an AC that is not sized properly, and unfortunately this is a frequent issue when homes are built. Stark Services is happy to come out and complete an analysis to determine if the size of your AC is causing your troubles.

AC shuts on and off constantly

If your A/C system is short cycling, or turning on or off consistently, it could mean one of a few things. One option is that your condenser or evaporator is clogged or dirty and needs to be cleaned. Once the system is cleaned and all clogs moved aside, you may be back to a regular running air conditioner. Note that humidity also plays a role so if your home cools to the correct temperatures, but then the humidity causes the house to heat up quickly, it could result in an on-again, off-again air conditioner because it’s having to work harder to keep you cool and comfortable.

No matter your trouble, whatever common or uncommon air conditioning issue you run into, Stark Services is here for you all day, everyday. We are available anytime so we can get your air conditioner cooling and get your comfortable quickly.
